“Do not speak unless it improves the silence.” ~Buddhist saying

It is easy to get caught up in a world filled with continuous noise.  A world where ‘the squeaky wheel gets the grease’, or ‘LOUD and PROUD’ is the rally cry.  The media leads us to believe that the loudest or the harshest wins the debate.  We are told to speak from the heart, yet it is from our mind that our voice cries out undeterred.  Our words cut through like a sword, leaving those around us fallen in an emotional death.

Buddha stated: “The tongue like a sharp knife kills without drawing blood.”

We are all spiritual beings living a human existence.  At our root we are love.  Words create our world, they have the power to transform, to motivate, to inspire, to move people, yet they also have the power to destroy.  Buddha stated that before we speak we ask ourselves- Is it necessary? Is it the truth? Is it kind?

Call to Action:

  • Think before you speak.  Remember Buddha’s words:  Is it necessary?  Is it the truth?  Is it kind?
  • Remember that words are a creation.  You are creating with your words be it destruction or power and inspiration.  You choose this creation.  Choose well.
